The tension or stress headache is the most common headache that affects working adults. Dealing with the stress of work, kids, and keeping up with others via social media can be very stressful. I’m sure most of you have woken up in the morning or had a stress induced headache that bothers you all day. Most of these headaches come from where we carry that stress. It usually happens when your upper back and neck tense up for long periods. So key for relieving these headaches is to reduce that tension in the muscles of your upper back. These muscles are directly linked to nerves that run up into your neck and the back of your head. I am going to give you three of the best ways to get rid of a stress headache. I am speaking from personal experience. I used to get terrible headaches, some of these were of the disabling migraine type. Through many years of Dr. appointments and Chiropractor appointments and much reading and trial and error, I determined that they were simply stress induced headaches due to tension in my upper back. These are 3 GREAT ways that I have found to be successful at reducing stress/tension headaches.

DRINKING WATER
In our busy lives, the simple task of making sure we stay hydrated is a difficult task some times. Staying hydrated is one way to prevent or get rid of stress headaches. Dehydration can cause fatigue and fatigue is one of the known causes of tension headaches. It is recommended that you drink .5 to 1 ounce of water for every pound daily. For example, if you weighed 150 pounds you would want to drink between 75 and 150 ounces of water every day. One of the ways that I force myself to make sure I’m drinking plenty of water throughout the day is by having a full water bottle near me at all times. I will sometimes fill multiple water bottles and leave them scattered around so that I always have one close. My favorite water bottle is the Yeti Rambler 26 oz Stainless Steel with Chug Cap. It keeps my water cold for hours on end.

MASSAGE
The second GREAT way to get rid of stress headaches is by getting a massage. I know when my headaches are getting bad and I can’t even treat them with aspirin, I usually head for a nice hour long massage. This usually solves the problem at least for a few weeks. If you are hesitant about having somebody you don’t know work on your neck, back, and shoulders, or maybe just don’t have the time, I have found some at home massage tools that work great. Most everybody in our family use these on a pretty consistent basis.
-Shiatsu Neck Massager – This is my favorite…easy to focus in on tension spots and provides heat.
-Handheld Back Massager – This is small but packs some good power and is very portable.
CBD
One of the latest crazes in the health world is that of CBD oils and patches. These oils will help with relaxation and can help with loosening those back and neck muscles that put a strain on your nerves running into your skull. CBD comes from the Hemp plant and it is blowing up the market for helping anxiety, stress, and better sleep. I personally use the AMEO CBD patch. There are many options available in the form of oils, creams, or patches. I wear a patch almost daily. It is good for 24 hours and usually cuts down my headaches and allows for better sleep which helps me avoid those fatigue headaches that I talked about earlier.
